How Physical Therapy Can Help Your Feet and Ankles

Injuries to the feet and ankles are some of the most common, especially among athletes. They can also be debilitating, as we need both to walk. Because October is National Physical Therapy Month, today Dr. Hubert Lee at CarePlus Foot & Ankle Specialists in Bellevue, WA, is sharing information regarding how physical therapy can help your feet and ankles,

There are several specifically designed rehabilitation programs in place that are to cure issues with the feet and ankles. But before we discuss how physical therapy can help various problems with the feet and ankles, let’s review some of the most common types of injuries and issues associated with them.

Plantar Fasciitis: When the flat band tissue that connects a person’s heel bones to their toes becomes strained, it is known as plantar fasciitis

Turf Toe: Common among professional athletes, this condition happens when ligaments of the big toe joint are sprained.

Achilles Rupture: When the Achilles tendon tears or separates, it’s referred to as a ruptured Achilles.

Achilles Tendinitis: This condition happens when the Achilles tendon is inflamed.

Bunion: A bunion is a bony bump located at the base of the big toe joint that makes the big toe turn towards the second toe, causing discomfort and pain.

Stress Fractures: These are tiny breaks in the bone that typically occur because of recurring stress to the area.

Metatarsalgia: When someone experiences inflammation and pain in the forefoot, because of overuse, it is considered metatarsalgia.

How Physical Therapy Can Help

If you seriously injure your feet or ankles, you may consider a focused physical therapy program, which can help improve strength, range of motion, and flexibility while targeting specific muscles.

Additionally, physical therapy can target problems related to recovery from surgery on the foot or ankle. The treatment for your injury will depend on your particular issue.
