Try These Remedies for Heel Pain

Treat Heel Pain with a Podiatrist

If you live with persistent heel pain, you know it is rarely something you can get rid of using home remedies. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t get some relief! Today Dr. Hubert Lee of CarePlus Foot & Ankle Specialists, in Bellevue, WA, is sharing his tips as part of a comprehensive plan for more substantial relief.

Heel pain is not a single, simple problem, but an issue connected to a variety of different conditions. Without addressing the source of the problem, heel pain will never be treated as effectively as it should be.

Please keep in mind the following methods probably won’t take care of your heel pain permanently on their own, but will certainly provide some temporary relief.

Roll it.  First, you will need something sturdy that can roll, such as a rolling device made for feet, a tennis ball, or a bottle. Sit in a chair, remove your shoes, and roll the object beneath each foot with controlled, steady pressure. It feels amazing, and it massages strained tissues. For example, if you suffer from plantar fasciitis, this should be a great help to you.

Stretch it. Stretching can loosen muscles that may be straining too hard against parts of your heel, provide more support where needed, and relieve heel pain. There are a few stretches that might prove helpful to you, depending on what is causing your heel pain, so be sure to ask your podiatrist for suggestions.

Support your arches. If stressed arches are causing your heel pain, then choosing shoes with proper support can make a substantial difference. Wearing high heels or shoes that are too flat, can be torture on your arches during the day. A good pair of sneakers or running shoes can provide better support if you can wear them.

Get specialized help for your heel pain. Keep in mind that if these remedies don’t help, hope is not lost. We can get to the cause of your heel pain and recommend the best treatment methods to help you enjoy substantial, lasting relief.

Whether your plan includes medications, physical therapy, surgery, or custom orthotics, we will help you every step of the way.
