How to Educate and Entertain Your Children at Home

School isn't the only place where children learn. And when your child is at home, you become their teacher. Today Dr. Hubert Lee of CarePlus Foot & Ankle Specialists in Bellevue, WA, is sharing some activities to help your children get excited about discovering something new.

Learning Games

For those in preschool, play a basic game that helps your children learn about farm animals, colors, shapes, and numbers by putting together a scavenger hunt. Modify the game for school-age children to cover world government, foreign language, history, and anatomy.

Practice Writing

This is a skill your children will use all throughout their life, so teach it to them using methods that go beyond pencil and paper. Get messy - use Play-Doh to draw or shape letters. Your children will be entertained and more prepared when they return to school.

Reading

This is one of the most wonderful gifts you will ever give your children. Learning the basics prepares kids for reading and spelling readiness. Kids can play games like looking for things that start with certain sounds.

Identifying Colors

Children love to learn their colors at an early age. With a pack of colorful decorations, you can help them learn how to count, identify colors, and start sorting, which also boosts their motor skills.

Teach Mathematics

Math is all around us, so make it fun. Try counting the number of team players on the field by the number of water bottles on the bench to determine how many people won't have anything to drink.

Develop Counting Skills

Teaching your child how to count seems easy, but reciting numbers in the correct order is just the beginning. Play a game that lets them actually touch the objects they're counting.

Get Musical

Hit the right note with fun music classes, by making your own instruments and playing musical games. Record the sounds your instruments make and play them back to see if your child can get the answer right.
